We are a group of volunteers and residents who have set up a volunteer walking group, accredited to the national Walking for Health programme hosted by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Care. The new scheme for Braintree District residents will be FREE. We aim to: •Deliver accredited, safe and effect health walks, run by trained local volunteer walk leaders •Offer a variety of walks to benefit health and wellbeing from 30 90mins long •Work in partnership with Provide (NHS providers), Active Braintree the Walking For Health programme. What do you need to do? No fancy kit, just turn up in comfortable/appropriate clothing and footwear. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about your general health. If there is any doubt we will ask you to get formal consent from your doctor. Guidelines for walkers: •Walks take place in all weathers. •At the beginning of the walk the walk leader will provide information on the route as well as likely conditions and any known hazards along the route. •All walkers are expected to remain alert during the course of the walks and to recognize them normal everyday hazards and requirements when using the highways or when off road, especially if there are frosty or slippery conditions. •Please inform the leader if you intend to leave the walk at any time. •Ensure you footwear has a good tread on the sole. •If anyone has a problem of any kind whatsoever, please bring it to the notice of one of the walk leaders immediately. •As a walker you have a normal duty of care to yourself, to the walk leader(s) and to your fellow walkers.
