Pregnancy Pals and Birth Buddies

We offer peer support to expectant parents during pregnancy, birth and the first three months following the birth. The programme uses a strengths based, semi- structured model to promote health and wellbeing, support parents to feel prepared for the birth and becoming a parent and to enable parents to feel confident during early parenthood. Our peer supporters visit parents in their own homes or wherever they feel comfortable and offer support based on the needs of the parent. This includes sharing evidence based information, supporting access to other services, actively listening to how the parents feel, supporting parents to identify their own way forwards. Our Birth Buddies also act as a birth partner and support the mother through labour and birth. Benefits to having a Pregnancy Pal or Birth Buddy: • Emotional and practical support, encouragement and motivation • Support with feeling prepared for labour and birth and becoming a parent • A kind non-judgemental ear to listen to you • Someone to go to antenatal appointments or Children’s Centre groups with you • Sharing information and help with exploring your choices • Boosting your confidence and finding your own way forwards • Helping you to access other support and services
